Are you using any cast software on your PC which was working fine before installing AVG?
If yes, let us set the network profile of AVG Firewall to Private.
Open AVG Internet Security -> Menu at the top right -> Settings -> Components -> Enhanced firewall -> customize -> system rules -> make sure all the task has been enabled.
Again, Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> change all the profiles from public to Private and check with the issue.
Is there some settings I should change to be able to cast? I can cast from you tube and spotify but not from my desktop.(envy 23 running windows 10)

Well, we aren't sure about the exact reason for this issue.
However, we can help you in confirming whether the issue is due to AVG or not.
Try disabling AVG Internet Security temporarily and check whether you are able to cast from PC.
Open AVG Internet Security interface.
Click on "Menu–>Settings–>Troubleshooting–>Passive Mode".
Slide the cursor to turn on passive mode which is "turning off the protection".

I have had AVG for years, this issue just popped up. I tried your suggestion with out success. Could it be the wi fi booster? The only change I made was adding a Blu ray to my network. After that I no longer can cast. I get message(no cast destinations found.
