No option for closing the program?

Hey, I just wanted to ask/confirm this.

Is there no option for closing the program (AVG free)? And why on EARTH would this ever be the case?
I understand that it's supposed to protect as well as scan for threats, but one might not want the program to be running at all times. I seem to be able to turn off self-protection, but not to turn off the program itself.

I despise programs that always try to keep running. I want a program that I can start when I want to scan my computer, but one that won't add itself to auto-start and just refuses to close itself. Is there any other option for an AVG light perhaps, that is merely an anti-virus scanner, one that I would be able to turn off when I'm not using it? Or should I opt to use another company's service instead?

Okay, thanks for the reply and help, but this was not what I was looking for. Because even though the components are disabled, the program is still running in the background. I just want to shut it down, and frankly, it's baffling that the option isn't there.

I see. However, it can easily be designed to run and protect the whole system by running in the background - and at the same time have an option to turn it off. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Anyway, thanks for your response and attempts at helping.
I cannot say I won't investigate other options for anti-virus however.

Hello Josef,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. We wish to keep you informed that AVG services can't be stopped until/unless it can be uninstalled from your system. If you need to stop any particular services it might affect the program configuration.  Thank you for understanding.
