Not being installed when renewing my protection

I would suggest you to try running AVG Clear & Remover tools as mentioned in this article: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product to remove AVG traces. 

Note: Please run AVG Clear first.

When I attempted to renew my protection for another year, I was given a new licence number (that part's ok), but I get the message that I am not protected as my protection is turned off. I tried to install from the links given to me in my email, but still no success. I thought perhaps uninstalling what had been there previously, and then trying to reinstall would help, but still no success. Any suggestions?
