Online Shield blocking almost everything

I am updating this thread for the benefit of all the other (frustrated) users who have spent countless hours wondering why web pages suddenly stop loading or refreshing.  Online Shield is indeed the culprit, and I share Andy's skepticism about the resolution coming "very soon."  Until the fix comes, it is not necessary to disable Online Shield completely.  Buried in the reply from AVG Technologies to Stefanos above is the recommendation to just disable HTTPS scanning within the Online Shield (Go to Settings, Components, and click on "Customize" next to Online Shield.  Then uncheck the box for Enable HTTPS scanning).  Everything has worked fine this way for me for the past couple of weeks.  I will send in a copy of my data log but won't hold my breath waiting for the fix.

I was supposed to get an email when this thread was updated, but I didn't.
I haven't received any email from you (I've checked my spam folder).
Could you just post what you tried to send me by email here in this thread please and I'll check back in in a couple of days or so.
Also, Karthikeyan did state in this same thread that "This online shield issue will be resolved very soon." Was that blind optimism? Because it suggests that AVG already have all the information they need to identify the bug(s) in your software to resolve it and that Karthikeyan had been assured by some senior technician that they were well on the way to resolving it.
Forgive me for asking this, but Karthikeyan's assurance, which is then followed by your desire for more data, and my not receiving any email… all sounds a bit like I'm (or this problem) is being "palmed off".
I bet you $10 this won't be "resolved very soon".
But post your email to me here, and I'll try to check back in soon.
(In the meantime, with AVG Online Shield still switched off, browsing for me has been operating like a well-oiled machine.)

Today is 20 Feb 2020.  I have experienced inability to access most websites over several weeks. Disabling the AVG Web Shield solves the problem.  I notice that this problem was ventilated in 2017 and AVG promised that a solution was imminent. What is the current recomendation ?
Hugh

Just to add a time frame for the resolution to the Https scan issue. Today's date 10-25-2018 I have a Windows 10 Pc with AVG Business Edition doing the same thing, with Web Shield on No Internet browsing. Downloaded the current version of AVG from there site yesterday and it fails to work.

Greetings Sarath,
I am having a very similar problem but, w/1 variation … when "Web Shield" component is active & I connect to the internet, then Windows (8) locks up. It will got to a 'BSD' after that w/a 'DPC Watchdog' error & eventually to reboot after a few minutes. I then have to try & beat the clock while it is loading, to get to the AVG 'Control Panel' so I can disable it again. Of course, I prefer not to do that because it does not feel like it would be safe to input any sensitive info w/out that turned on (ie: banking).
PLEASE HELP!

Hello Marc,
I'm sorry to hear about this. In this case, I request you to repair AVG Free Antivirus (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG), update (open AVG Free Antivirus > menu > settings > update) it one more time and reboot your computer once. After reboot, please check if you can access all the websites with enabled AVG program.
Best regards,
Alok.

Thank you, Alok, for the instuctions on how to repair AVG Free.  I did that and rebooted (twice on separate days) but I am still experiencing the same issues.  The Online Shield Component is still preventing most webpages from loading. Even support.avg.com will not load. GMail works and Googlemaps will load a map but when I zoom in it just freezes.  When web page loading freezes, the message in the lower left corner typically says, "transferring data from…" (e.g. transferring data from assets.adobetm.com).  It looks like I am able to re-vist and refresh pages if I first access them by turning Online Shield off, and then go back again after turning the protection back on again (without rebooting the computer).  My next step might be to ininstall and reinstall AVG Free but I'm hoping that you gave a suggestion to try before that.
Thanks again.
Marc

I have been struggling the last week to understand why i can't browse anything.

Finally it was AVG Online Shield.... when i disabled it everything went back to normal. I run Windows Vista. I reseted the computer twice with clean install of windows. Avg was the very first programm i added. Never thought that this caused the problems...

Marc B - you are a life saver. Many thanks!
This has fixed my issues for now. Question is, why can't/didn't AVG Support offer such a simple solution?

For the past 2-3 days, Online Shield is blocking almost all web page loading and all file downloads.  This is happening with Firefox and Explorer running in MS Vista.  File downloads from MS OnDrive or Pixieset stop completely after 0-30K with no notice or warning.  AVG free and virus definitions are up-to-date.  Scan reveals no viruses.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for trying repair, Marc.
I request you to reinstall only the "Online Shield" component of the AVG Antivirus free.
Please open the AVG Antivirus free dashboard and click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components"
To the right you can find online shield and to the right of "Customize" please click on the downward arrow mark where you can find the "Uninstall component" option.
Please click on it and restart the PC. Please get into the same window to install the component.
Restart the PC once after installation and check whether the issue persists in accessing websites.
