Have just renewed password protection to discover that it only supports the Firefox and Chrome browers, neither of which I use very often. Why isn't Edge supported ???

I'm afraid AVG Password Protection can only scan passwords stored in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox at the moment.
We'll take this as your valuable feedback about the product and pass it up to our developers.
