This isn’t expected behavior. We’ll work through fixing this together. May I know the version of your AVG Internet Security product? To check the version, please go to AVG Internet Security->Menu->About.
AVG is warning that the virus protections on my PC are out of date. When I try to update nothing happens. When I go to the update screen it says I'm and connected and are receiving updates. Is the message therefore a "glitch" in the system, or is the virus protection not working?

Graham, it looks like the setup is already running in the background.
Restart your PC once and then start performing repair.

It's software version 18.5.3059. Virus definition version 180626-0
Thanks. I had restarting without success, but then I turned off AVG in the start up apps menu and then restarted. This worked and protection is now up to date.
