Outlook 2013 unable to connect via AVG Secure VPN

Hi Bhuvaneswari,

Thanks for replying.  I have successful Outlook connections now so thanks for that too.

In case it's of interest if anyone else has the same problem; I changed my location but Outlook still said "Trying to Connect".  I then uninstalled AVG Secure VPN and reinstalled it.  The problem persisted and I went to look at the Outlook Connection Status by holding down CTRL and right-clicking on the Outlook icon in the system tray.  I was hoping that this may give additional information to pass on to you to help solve the problem.

As I watched the "Error" message (in the Auth(entication) column) changed to "Clear" and I was connected.  In addition to the steps that you said to follow which solved the problem I also did some additional testing and found that if I changed location Outlook took up to 5 minutes to connect to the Exchange Servers.  I changed location several times and this initial delay was consistent.  Having then established the connection the first time on each location I would then close Outlook and reopen it.  Each subsequent connection was made almost as soon as I reopened Outlook or used the "reconnect" button on the Outlook Connection Status dialog box.

Changing location again, even back to one that I'd used before, resulted in the long delay in connecting to the Exchange Servers but, having gone through the delay once, each subsequent connection was made quickly.

I hope the additional info may be useful to others and thank you again for solving the problem.

Hi Folks,

I have AVG Internet Security and, after the recent update (AVG Protection 17.4.3014), I downloaded a 30-day trial of AVG Secure VPN.

When the VPN is connected Outlook 2013 cannot connect my mail accounts that run through MS Exchange (ie Outlook.com and hotmail.com addresses).  Outlook has no problem with my Gmail account.

Just to double-check (that the VPN was causing this) I turned Internet Security onto Passive Mode, restarted (running Windows 7 Professional) and tried running Outlook again both with and without the VPN being connected.  When the VPN is connected Outlook keeps "Trying To Connect…".  With the VPN disconnected Outlook runs as normal and connects the MS Exchange accounts.

Would anyone know of any reason for this please?

Thankyou.

Andy, Glad to know that the issue is resolved now. I also thank you for sharing the valuable information that will help others who face similar issues. Thanks. AVG Customer care.
