Outlook error "folder cannot be selected. This may be because of limitation of your IMAP server..."

Disabling AVG did not resolve the problem. Unisntalling it did with Outlook wirking fine afterwards. I am in the process of re-installing AVG to see what happens next.

Hi all.

I am using outlook 2007 (old I know) on Win 7, set up with gmail as email server, which has ben working fine. AVG then updated yesterday ad now outlook will not access gmail IMAP folders with te message "The folder 'inbox' cannot be selected. This may be because of a limitation of your IMAP server or the folder may have been deleted or moved".  I have searched and found this thread SOLVED: Outlook 2007 IMAP “The folder … cannot be selected” – Rob Pomeroy but the suggested fix does not work in my instance. I have not as yet tried uninstalling AVG as would prefer to keep it. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Further to my previous post whilst un-installing AVG makes the problem go away, re-installing AVG vrings the problem back. Please advise before I have to let AVG go for good.

Sorry, what? Is that it? Let me clarify , I have been using AVG free for about 10 years!! It was an update of yours yesterday which caused this. Do you have any sensible suggstions? Surely it has something to do with the IMAP configuration discussed in the link above. Can you not confirm this?
