From your description, we're uncertain about the exact feature that is disabled on your AVG program.
For better clarity, please share us the screenshot of the message that says Realtime mode is disabled.
Also, clarify whether there are any other antivirus installed on your computer.

My AVG says I have disabled Realtime Mode.  I have not.  I don't know how to turn Realtime on or if I should.  I need help and advise.
