Thank you for your help. I am getting the new message about AVG in "passive mode" due to Microsoft Security Essentials being installed, But MSE is not installed on my computer. It was installed months ago, but I uninstalled it due continuing upgrade errors and installed AVG at that time. AVG has been working fine until this change, (BTW: it would have been nice to have been notified that my computer is unprotected).
Questions:
Can AVG passive mode be turned off (make it active)?
MSE does not show in the list of programs that can be uninstalled, or in any of the file folders, what can be done to fix?
Is my only option to remove AVG and go back and install and use MSE again?

Rich L, I'm having an almost identical error, but instead of AVG not liking MSE in my case it's ZoneAlarm. You click Yes, reboot, and then you are still stuck in Passive mode and get the same prompt to click Yes again to turn off Passive mode. I have a feeling it's not tied to your specific machine or MSE.

AVG Guru
Balasubramanian: I received the email and ran the AVG sysinfo tool and sent the upload about :90 minutes ago and replied to the email as instructed. I have not heard anything back yet. (BTW The tool did not work the first time and stuck for over an hour. I canceled and ran it again and it only took about :20 minutes to complete the second time.)
Chris Schult: What you described is exaclty what happens when I select the "yes activate" option. Just restarts and loops into the same problem.
