Hello John,
We're sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Kindly make sure that the AVG Internet Security on your HP computer has been updated to the latest version (20.10) & check if the issue persists.
Thanks in advance. Keep us updated.
I have a similar problem with 3 desktops running Windows 7.
It started following an update in Nov20 with Hacker attacks turned off but since 17Dec20 it's just password protection within hacker attacks.
The alarming thing is that running the cursor over the AVG icon in the system tray gives a green "fully protected" message but when I open AVG, it is not fully protected.
I see from Trevor White's post below that he overcame this by "clearing/uninstalling AVG and then reinstalling. I was hoping for an easier solution with 3 computers to sort
Any advice ? Thanks Peter
I have 2 laptops with the same AVG protection. My ASUS is fine. For about 2 months now every time I start my HP with Windows 10 I notice my password protection is off & I have to manually turn it on. Any solutions? Thanks
Hello Peter,

We'd like to inform that this has been identified as a bug and our developers are working on a fix.
As a temporary resolution, we'd request to uninstall AVG using clear tool (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Uninstall-AVG-software-Clear-Remover) and install it again.
