Hi Kelvin,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Forum. I see you are facing issues with AVG Secure VPN slowing down your internet speed. You may experience a slower internet connection when using AVG Secure VPN. This is because a VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server.
Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection. Regarding your concern, please try changing the location.
Kindly follow the below steps to change the location to a different server :
> Click Change on the main application screen
> Use the side menu to view all the servers in a specific continent, or servers that are optimized for streaming.
> Select a country. For countries that offer multiple cities, click the down arrow and select your preferred city.
> Click Change location to confirm the change.
>Your location now shows as the country and city that you selected.
Also, follow the below steps to enable the Avast mimic option for better performance.
Please open your Avast SecureLine VPN.
Go to Menu and click on Settings.
Check if you are able to see an VPN Protocol and check if you able to see a Avast Mimic option.
If yes, please select the Avast Mimic option and restart your computer and check if you are facing the same issue. Please let us know about the outcome. Thank you!
The VPN program updated this week and my laptop is now downloading at 8-10 Mbps, before the update it was downloading at 128-138Mbps, any idea what the problem is?
Thanks for the reply, I’ve changed the location and that seems to have sorted the problem, speed back to over 100Mbps, I also went into the settings and carried out the changes you recommend, if I do this I have no internet at all as it operates the kill switch, by turning off the kill switch I have no VPN at all so I reverted back to the recommended setting in the menu, thanks for your help at least I’ve got full VPN and my speed back.
Hello Kelvin,
Thank you for the reply and letting us know your issue has been fixed.
If you run into any trouble, or have any questions, feel free to write us back.
Thank you.
