I had a similar problem and I have a quick solution for those looking for one.
1. If you are uninstalling AVG anitvirus, or thier VPN, you will want to make note of your browser extentions and export your bookmarks so that you can get tthings back tto normal quickly. AVG will send your browser back to the stone ages (aka as if it were a fresh install of chrome).
2. This started because of AVG TuneUp, but I uninstalled all AVG products to see what further damage would be done. Further damage was done, but dont worry, it will soon be undone.
3. Optional: I downloaded a fee program called "fix shortcuts" which did fix some problems but not all. I simply used this program only to see what programs had been affected (thier pathways were corrupted and the exe's would not execute (they were broken) even from the program's directory which containis the main exe).
4. Delete left over AVG folders and files found in the AppData folder under C:\Users<username>\AppData. Even if you forget this step the 'reinstall' fix should still work (?), we just want to be sure to be rid of these files so they doesnt cause fututre problems.
4. Find your broken programs on the internet and reinstall them. In the case of windows office, it started working agian after I did a user sign-in. Programss like Office will need this kind of treamtment.
You might think that you will lose your personal information and settings this way but, in fact, you will not. The programs will sense the broken registries, pathways and shortcuts and simply repair them, they dont really reinstall but repair. I know this be cause when they install they take far longer and show you progress bars. In this case, they will hardly seem like they ran at all. Then try your origional exe's, they will work, and all your stuff will still be in place 
At the time I was making a full stack development program and had just finished, before I uninstalled AVG tuneup as well as the VPN. This 'reinstall' fix repaired everything so that its all working and communicating agian.

I've never really had any problems before, I only use AVG free and I am very Pro AVG - when talking with friends and colleagues… However… AVG has really annoyed me this week.
Accidentally clicked on PC tuneup and there was nothing I could do to stop it installing…
My PC did run better and faster - but not very noticeably, so I was happy with my PC performance as it was before AVG Tuneup! I didn't want this! I lost access to some of my browser functions in Chrome - but didn't know this was related.
Then the short demo of PC tuneup ended and AVG tuneup announced that it was ending and my PC would resume to the way it was and it said that my PC might run slower…
Understatement of the year!
First:
I lost my sound to most of my devices and have struggled with them ever since.
Chrome won't run if I have more than a few tabs open…
PC tuneup also enabled every extension in chrome as it handed back control of my PC.
Some extensions I have turned off but are just installed for when I need them.
What has AVG done to my pigging computer… ???
You cannot contact a support rep that actually works for AVG - WOW? What BS…
I spent time writing what you see below and then when I went to click GET HELP, you go to yet another screen that leaves you scratching your head. I expected - Thanks- a support staff member will be emailing you or calling you soon, (and perhaps a CHAT NOW popup), Non of that though.
You go to sign in - I've not needed to sign in for years! System said I did not exist, went to create and account - Apparently I do exist - forgot password then; - it worked, but the system has none of my details filled in - I know I did do this - as there is a note in my little black book.
After a few more issues… to get signed in.
I go through the same process again to find - it lands me in a catch 22 situation - back on the very same page to start the same process over again. Re the contact support form. ARrrrrrrrG!
SO - now I'm finally here… This is what I wrote - wanted to ask…
But first this is a complaint to whoever the real support staff are:-
Your support system is crap… Give us at least an email address to write to…
If you do have one - at least put it in view - because I cannot find it.
No way to contact support ? No Chat? WOWWWW!
PC TUNEUP ? Huh?
You should have a double tap button on your pop up - LIKE: are you sure, are you really sure… then install…
I hit your PC Tuneup popup accidentally during switching screen recording software windows applications and; because AVG Tuneup was starting whilst I was running a game, my PC became unresponsive and I had to just sit there watching AVG tuneup - murder my PC. .
I usually switch between these applications all the time and without issue, the only difference being that AVG got in the way and got clicked…
Now I have a tonne of problems with my PC since the PC Tuneup trial ended.
I cannot find how to turn on / return my sound profile to how it was.
Speaker icon just says Audio Service is not running - But it is -
I hear YouTube video on Chrome
- WMP - video (is booming loud, but working)
- Skype - I fixed it by reinstalling.
- VLC Player AUDIO still not working.
- IceCream Apps Screen Recorder - No sound and black screen in video screen capture and image screen shots are just black.
OBS - having to re do all of my sound profiles within every setup.
-Chrome is slow and will hardly run.
-If I start Skype with anything else - everything becomes sluggish…
I don't know how AVG dare install without a double click on a pop up like this…
Secondly…
My email is XXXXXXXXXXX and I would like a solution to return my sound and Chrome Browser to the way it was before AVG Tuneup installed.
