Hello Anthony,
I regret for the inconvenience caused. Please let me know if this issue started after installing AVG PC TuneUIp. If it is, then check if Turbo mode is enabled in AVG PC TuneUp.
To check if turbo mode is enabled, please open the AVG PC TuneUp installed in your computer and at the main interface you can see four icons, please place the mouse pointer at the icon and you can see the mode in which your computer is set. If it is selected in "Turbo Mode", please change it to "Standard Mode" and check if visual effects in your computer works fine. If the issue persists, please let us know and we will assist you further.
Hello Anthony,
Please be informed that once AVG PC TuneUp expires you cannot access any options on it. I would request you to purchase a new license for AVG PC TuneUp and optimize the PC for better performance. To purchase AVG PC TuneUp with a possible discount price, please contact the chat support team
AVG | Support for AVG products | AVG Support Center
If you are not willing to purchase AVG, please restore the changes made by AVG PC TuneUp http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-revert-changes-done-by-PC-TuneUp and uninstall it from the control panel.
Hello. Well when i first asked the question back on 09AUG the trial period was still active but you guys could not find a solution then. THis really is not an acceptable solution to buy a license for a program that has totally messed up my PC. Ive already tried the revert changes path but it didnt work either. Are you saying that unless i buy a license to fix the problem your program caused that this is the only solution? Could you give me a 1 hour license or something like that to fix this? Or am i forced to buy a license in some sort of ransomware deal to fix my PC your program has basically rendered unusable?
Thanks for this suggestion. However the trial period has expired and i cant access the 'Recommendations' options - is there a work around for this so i can access this menu?
Please see thread below - what are the solutions to this problem? Visual effects cannot be undone my PC is basically unusable due to low quality appearance. Does anyone at AVG know what is going on with this ridiculous situation?

Hello.
As i already stated, rescue center does not have anything available to restore.
Ive already uninstalled the program and tried the control panel windows adjustment on visual effects and nothing changed.
PC Tuneup must have changed something that windows cannot unchange.
Again i ask - can i get temporary (eg 1 day) license to use the program 'Recommendations' to hopefully undo these visual effects changes? This is wasting too much of my time already this is not acceptable.
Of,course this has nothing to do with the issue as the mode doesnt change anything and which was ale3ady noted in the original thread as not helpful.

Hello Anthony,
I understand the inconvenience caused due to AVG Tuneup program. In this case, I request you to undo the AVG PC TuneUp changes (open expired AVG PC TuneUp program > rescue center > undo > restore all the changes), reboot your computer once. You can also uninstall the expired AVG PC TuneUp (control panel > program and features), and check again if your computer running as before. If the issue still persist, then please open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools, click Adjust visual effects. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Click the Visual Effects tab, click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK. (For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer.)
Best regards,
Alok.
