I wanted to test AVG internet Security installed in my laptop, so i found this blog Test File: PDF With Embedded DOC Dropping EICAR | Didier Stevens and downloaded a pdf file, which should be detected as threat, but AVG didn't and Microsoft security essentials detects it.
