We'd be glad to clarify.
Please note that performance issues can be fixed by AVG TuneUp only. AVG Internet Security and AVG TuneUp are different products and not included with each other. 
So the pop up you received was a campaign for AVG TuneUp.

I have already purchased one year protection and after smart scan, it has identified few performance issues. AVG was not able to resolve them and keep on asking for extra payment for further two years.
