Hello Anth,
We’re happy to help you sort this out. It seems you have installed Avast security program on your computer. Please share a screenshot of the AVG user interface (main screen) to assist you further, I request you to let me know the AVG program you have installed on your computer (control panel > program and features), also check for the Avast application.
I can see that you already have AVG Ultimate, expires on 2019.3.28.
May I know which AVG program you were trying to purchase?
Best regards,
Alok.
I activated my computer after it went into hibernation and saw this popup - something that looked exactly like AVG telling me my licence had expired and not to worry they had a special offer for me. I have to admit, I did not check, I clicked on it, to some brilliant discounts. I thought it odd that it asked for my name, postcode and email - somthing AVG would have already. When it went to the billing section it mentioned Avast VG… and I thought oh is that what the A stands for… DOH! I entered my paypal info on the site but it stopped there, refusing to load paypal as it said I did not have the latest browser. This was when I realised I think I fell for a phishing scam and changed my password on Paypal straight away. Thought I'd share my foolish experience with you all in case you are shown this popup as well.
Hi Alok,
You're missing the point. I didn't install Avast Security on my computer. I only have AVG. The company uses your Icons, your fonts, your appearance, and tells the user that their AVG licence has expired. When you click on renew, you get to this page. I was not trying to purchase any other programs, only to renew what i thought had expired. When I checked my account, I already had autorenew on with you and had full internet security coverage. I get popups from AVG all the time, so I didn't think it was strange to receive this one. I only posted to find out if this company is affiliated with you, and if it was a scam, to share my experience. with other users.
Anth,
I completely understand your concern. AVG Internet Security and Avast Internet Security (For your information, Avast has acquired AVG) engine is almost same so it seems the last AVG Internet Security updates cause this issue (This is not scam, error in updates).
Since you already have valid AVG Ultimate subscription till 2019.3.28, there is no need to renew AVG Internet Security.
In this case, I request you to reinstall AVG Internet Security on your computer using AVG Clear/AVG Remover tool. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. I also request you to run Avast Clear tool (to make sure there is no Avast traces).
Before AVG reinstallation (before running any tools), may I know how did you come to know that your computer have malware?
Best regards,
Alok.
