Phony AVG on my pc

Hello John,

I understand the inconvenience.
The upgrade for 2017 version happened in your case and it is necessary to remove your older 2016 version once the upgrade got completed.
To remove AVG 2016 version, please run AVG remover tool as mentioned in this article: http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 .
Keep us informed about the status.

Three days ago I received an AVG alert that 'something' was attempting to take control of my pc, I activated AVG and found that all protection was showing red and stating not supported. I was short of time and switched the pc off.
Tonight, I switched my pc on and ran Malware bytes. No threat was detected but while the program was running a pop-up appeared saying that AVG had been updated and had new features. One of the new features was 'unlimited protection for other devices'. When this option was selected details of the devices were requested. I exited the program and returned to my desktop. I noticed that there were now 2 AVG icons on my desktop.
When I selected the original AVG icon everything was 'red' and saying 'unprotected'.
When I selected the new AVG icon, everything was blue and stated that I was protected.

HELP!

What do I do?

Regards,
J Lyon.
