Please recommend dvd playback driver for Windows 8.1

Hi,
I was surprised to find my new Win 8.1 laptop has DVD player but no software to play it!
Windows Store offers one for $90, but can anyone please recommend a free or cheaper product that does the job? I don't use high demand DVD formats.
