Just downloaded the free AVG trial and it stated a restart was needed. When the laptop restarted it went to a loading wheel that said please wait… standard start up screen. Now that all my laptop is capable of. Please help me fix this?! No reboot attempts have worked.

Try booting your PC into safe mode as mentioned (here).
If you are able to get into safe mode, try (uninstalling) AVG Internet Security trial.
Restart the PC and inform the status here.
