Contacting support doesn't tell anyone else how to resolve the issue, how is that helpful?
so i spent a good hr with chat support agent Sijo. we found that putting the firewall in private mode ofr connections fixed it on my end. once applied i disconnected the remote conecction and reconnected and it applied the fix through plex.
I am having the same issue here. I have changed all network profiles to private and still can't access my media server. I can access them if I disable AVG.
My AVG version is 17.3.3011
I have used Serviio, Kodi, Universal Media Server and Plex Media Server, Windows Media Server and all of them are having the same issue.
If changing your Network Profile to Private is not an option and you need to set Packet rules:
TCP 32400 alone may not work for client connections. Some of the other ports listed are used for discovery as opposed to the data stream. Discovery being kind of important.
(from a post in the Plex forum):
The most important port to make sure your firewall allows is the main TCP port the Plex Media Server uses for communication:
TCP: 32400 (for access to the Plex Media Server) [required]
The following ports are also used for different services:
UDP: 1900 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)
TCP: 3005 (for controlling Plex Home Theater via Plex Companion)
UDP: 5353 (for older Bonjour/Avahi network discovery)
TCP: 8324 (for controlling Plex for Roku via Plex Companion)
UDP: 32410, 32412, 32413, 32414 (for current GDM network discovery)
TCP: 32469 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)

Plex remote acess only works If I turn firewall off in AVG
How do I get round this problem, I have tried adding internal IP and Port and External IP and Port to Allow section
Plex version 1.5.5.3634
AVG Internet Security Version 17.3.3011 (build 17.3.3443.0)
Regards Steve
Both of my Plex servers are not accessible externally or internal on my network since the AVG 2017 update took place. Unless I disable AVG Protection (specifically the Firewall portion), even if PlexMediaServer.exe and PlexMediaServer.dll are added to the Exceptions list, the Plex Media Servers running on both of my PCs are not accessible. The Plex Media Server running on my Drobo5N is still accessible internally and externally which definitely points to the AVG 2017 update being the culprit. For the benefit of others that also run Plex Media Servers and also subscribe to AVG 2017 and are experience this same issue, I am going to uninstall and reinstall both AVG Tune Up and AVG Protection. I will post the results of my discovery. From looking on this support forum, users are getting their issue resolved, but unfortunately, they are being resolved without documenting HOW the issue was resolved. I hope that an uninstall and reinstall will somehow magically place the Plex Media Server on the "white list" and will stop blocking the ports in the Firewall.
AVG Guru
Sorry to know that you have issues with Plex remote access.
Have you installed 2017 version of AVG in your computer?
Thank you.
I got same issue, I have to turn off Internet Security to be able remote acces my Plex server, I am currently on latest version of AVG Internet Security: 17.3.3443.0 there is also no option to add anything to AVG internet security. I want to be able put my applications in a save list with ports.
So far I could research the option to add applications to the Internet Security white list is not available in current versions, when wil this be updated?
Kind regards,
Ozen
