Pop up ads every 5 damn minutes and they are just blank white boxes

Every 5 minutes a blank white box about 10cm square appears on my primary screen. It just sits there - it's an AVG pop up ad. I'm running the free version. The only way to get rid of the damn thing is go to the taskbar right-click on the AVG icon and click close
