Pop-up for purchase of AVG Pro won't go away

I know this thread is a few years old but if it can help someone else with this issue… AVG gives you the opportunity to upgrade to pro services if you have the free version. I ran into this issue myself when I clicked on the option to view more info ( resolve ) button.

Once I did there wasn't an option to close, such as an X in the pop-up. I had to proceed with the checkout process, choose an option, continue to checkout and once I did, I just clicked the X on the option I chose to remove it from my cart. It then told me my cart was empty and provided a close button to escape the window. Not sure if this will work for others, but hope it does.

Yknow…I have the free version of AVG for a reason and now I cannot run a computer scan, the most basic service, because of this obnoxious popup about Pro. I cannot simply X out the popup and now the functions that were available to me FOREVER are now blocked off. This is absurd. I'm uninstalling and finding something else. You guys let me down.

Ok, I made an AVG account JUST to answer this topic, see if I can help you all.

I too had my AVG PRO trial. Can I just say? I felt no real difference between the free and Pro edition. The free edition does all the things that I want and need, I don't feel like I need the Pro edition at all.

Anyway, for some reason, the antivirus activated the trial WITHOUT MY CONSENT, as in it updated without any prompt from my part (sort of like the Windows 10 update if I'm not mistaken, do correct me if I'm wrong though). So I had to bear with the 30 days trial, getting pop-ups saying that my trial is almost finished. And then, everytime I try to use "protection", the screen demanding that I need to upgrade to Pro blocked all of the applications, and I couldn't run a diagnostic on my demand.

But I found a way around it, I can still run diagnostics, I just can't check them or decide what to do if viruses are found. Use secondary-click on the AVG icon on the side of the task bar (where the clock is), and a small AVG window appears, and click to run an analysis, done.

But that doesn't really solve the issue. So I looked for answers online and found this thread. And I thought, "well, maybe uninstalling it and installing from a fresh installation file will stop this issue". And I was going to, but when I started the uninstalling, an AVG window (that I never saw before) asked if I wanted to "Go back to FREE" or just simply "uninstall". So I gave a shot at the going back to free.

The window which blocked the AVG Protection window is now gone. At least for now, but maybe this is the solution. I don't know, I see that nobody else tried uninstalling it (or at least forgot the thread) and I wanted to give the solution that I got (which maybe didn't appear for everyone).

So, quick rundown: Uninstall the antivirus from "Programs and features"; choose "Uninstall"; now a window should appear that says "Go back to Free" and "Uninstall", choose "go back to free"; see if it works. If it doesn't, then I'm sorry, I don't know what could be the solution, because it worked for me (so far).

I will keep you updated if there's a change and the window comes up again and blocks me from using AVG.

Oh and AVG employers and admins, if you are reading this, then you don't need to reply to me. Because I think I found the solution, but not thanks to you.

So uninstalling and then reinstalling will fix it? You say to solve it you must buy pro which does not seem very right or fair considering the pop up does not allow you to do anything in the free version, but then you say to solve it you must uninstall everything. So which is it? buying pro? or uninstalling?

So quite some time I downgraded my Pro version to free version due to the trial being expired. However, whenever I start AVG,it still mentions that my trial has ended and that I "have" to buy the pro version to stay protected and there is no button to hide the message. In the taskbar and program list, the AVG is listed as the free version and I have reinstalled it again, but it won't help getting rid of the message.

Any idea how to get rid of this message?

Hello Ka,
We understand how something like this can really try your patience. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Since your trial have expired you need to purchase the paid version to get your issue fixed. To get rid of those pop up you need to uninstall it from the control panel. Please press Window Key + R on your keyboard and type "appwiz.cpl" and hit enter. In control panel search for the application named as AVG Protection and AVG PC TuneUp and uninstall it from your pc one by one and then uninstall AVG Zen. Your issue will be fixed.
Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance. Thank you.

Hello Ka,

Sorry, only for Protection there is a free, trial and paid version, for PC tuneup there is only trial and paid version.
So in your case, we request you to uninstall all both protection and PC tuneup.
If you wish to install only AVG free antivirus please use this link: http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-antivirus-free .
Please feel free to contact us if you need any assistance.
