Here is a screen shot of the pop-up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen:
Hello,
I've been using your AVG AntiVirus Free Protection (version 16.51.59918) for some time and find it satisfactory.
For the last month a pop-up has been invading my screen, telling me that my online security is incomplete. This is a vague and obscure notification and there is no way for me to find out what exactly the problem is or what it is you are tying to get me to install: the only options I have are to 'install now', to get you to 'remind me later' or to close the pop-up by pressing the 'x' on the top right of the pop-up. Like any consumer with half a brain I would like to know what I'm installing before I install it.
There have already been several complaints and reviews about this issue by other customers. I don't work in advertising but it occurs to me that an advertising campaign that drives your loyal customers crazy is not a good strategy to convince them to upgrade or buy a new product.
I don't want these irritating pop-ups any more. I don't want to download whatever new product it is that you are peddling. If you can't provide me with a sensible solution I will look for other antivirus providers. There are plenty of free antivirus programs with good reviews.
I look forward to your (hopefully not computer generated) response.
Catherine,
We do understand your concern.
Many of our customers reported the same issue regarding our campaign popups.
We asked them to submit the feedback to us via http://www.avg.com/product-feedback .
We also request you to submit the feedback to us so that our concern team can take necessary actions in the future.
Also we suggested to some of our customers to completely reinstall AVG free using the AVG remover tool and some of the customers said that they aren't getting the popups. Would you like to try the reinstallation?
Catherine,
As I said earlier few customers confirmed that they aren't getting popup anymore.
That is the reason we asked whether you would like to try it.
Getting campaign popups from AVG program is the concept of marketing and we request you to submit the feedback to us http://www.avg.com/product-feedback so that our concern team can take necessary actions regarding it.
"Also we suggested to some of our customers to completely reinstall AVG free using the AVG remover tool and some of the customers said that they aren't getting the popups"
- This is your product. You should know whether or not reinstalling the program will result in the pop-ups stopping. The pop-ups are your problem. I'm not spending time un- and reinstalling the program to check and see whether or not the pop-ups might perhaps stop.
If I don't get a proper response from you I'll be joining the many customers who are giving up on AVG and taking their loyalty elsewhere.
