1,2: AVG AntiVirus Free
3: From what atl least some of the pop-ups say, restarting my system as the pop-ups demand will complete the updates, which are initiated periodically by AVG.

Lately AVG popups have been requiring a computer restart even though I've just completed a restart, perhaps in response to just such a pop-up. Why?
Richard, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Also if it's an updating issue have a look @ these 2 AVG articles…

Hello Richard,
Thank you for replying us back. Please follow the instructions on the article http://avgclick.me/RestartUpdate to avoid continues restart messages for the updates. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
Thank you.
The link you provided does not answer. It tells me only how I can postpone [which is obvious anyway from the wording of the pop–up] and how I can avoid the demanded restarts–although avoiding them will defeat the antivirus protection, which would manifestly be foolish. My question remains: Why am I required to restart my computer right after having done so, perhaps in response to the previous pop-up?
Richard,
Thank you for trying out the instructions and could you confirm your AVG reports "You are protected" on the AVG interface? Thank you.
