including refendit.exe.

Microsoft in reply says this can happen if a third party application changed or corrupted default registry settings. This I cannot correct because there was no access to regedit as described.
The program icons turned white. When prompted windows "cannot open file" suggested to use existing programs to ope. True TD "Word". All icons showed "W" and no link was established. Tried system restore, not available. Tried regedit and regedit exe,cannot open. What else can I do.
