Printer offline with AVG

Hi AVG, We use a network printer, an HP ENVY Inspire 7900e. After the most recent subscription update this has moved to "offline status" on both of our home PC's. I have verified all the network sharing settings in the enhanced firewall rules area as per previous articles but no joy. The printer works fine on both machines if I disable AVG by going into "passive mode" but this means I no longer have any virus protection. Can you please advise a fix for this problem?
