From your description, it seems that the option to allow the local device access isn't enabled.
Please follow these steps & let us know if it helps : Open AVG Secure VPN - Menu - Settings - General - Check 'Allow local device access'.

Hello,

I have to disable the VPN at least once a day in order to print a document.  Any reason why this is happening or how I can prevent it?
