I am having the same problem, AVG constantly see my VPN service as a virus, even after I flag it as safe . 20 times in total, I have had to go to the virus vault and retsore the service, very unsatisfactory. I will not be reneimg my AVG subscription, the programme just does not work !
You have no idea how angry I am at the moment.
The same has happened to me today.
Running Win 7
PIA (paid)
AVG Ultimate
I have 500 days left of my license and I am looking at alternatives.
I am sick to the back teeth of having to resolve problems caused by your software.
As for all the "please send us this and that routine"
Do it yourself, enough people have complained for it to be a real problem, don't expect us to stop work our work and do yours for you!
I just tried to install PIA and it is STILL being blocked by AVG. I can't install it, I can't override AVG and AVG tells me it has sent the programme to AVG Headquarters for evaluation. Which is bs, of course, since you know about this problem for at least 2 years. (Of course I get it: AVG has it's own VPN-service and likes to kill the competition.)
Ever since I PAID for AVG (about 14 months ago) it starts to behave like malicious software and a spam factory (I don't want PC Tuneup or whatever. Stop the annoying mails and pop-ups!). And now this. I've had it with this service.
Don't give me nonsense about screenshots, because you know they can't be supplied. FIX IT! If not, I will have to cancel this subscription in favour of a service more to my suitings.
This issue has been sitting here for almost 2 years and AVG still have not fixed it.
It has identified Openvpn.exe as Unknown Malware on my PC.
This is on a fresh install of both PIA and AVG Ultimate (paid version)
It refuses my request to restore the file from the vault.
Been a paid user of AVG Ultimate for around 4 years, I guess it's time to move on.
The issue remains the same today. I think it is safe to say AVG has no intention of fixing it.
Apparently now running PC TuneUp will also render PIA non-functional and stuck in a perpetual loading freeze. Honestly, how has AVG managed to become a litany of conflict-laiden worthless security and performance software and even more worthless support?
I had to re-install Private Internet Access as had the same problem with my paid AVG flagging it up, Avg sell a VPN so maybe something to do with that? Who knows?
Hi folks, I'm also having this issue, in this case between AVG and Opera VPN. When AVG is enabled, I click on the VPN icon in the Opera browser (to the left of the search window). It says "Connecting…" and stays perpetually in that state, never achieving a connection. When I disable AVG, the VPN connection is established almost immediately.
I can't send you a screenshot, since I can't find anything in any AVG screen pertaining to this issue. I imagine there is some process I can authorize to allow Opera's built-in VPN to work, but I don't know how to do that.
AVG Version 17.3.3011
Virus definitions version 170503-4
Opera version 44.0.2510.1449 (PGO)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Sounds like this is a common issue with AVG and VPNs; it would be great if you could publish some kind of official workaround guide, rather than having to deal with each of us one-on-one.
Hello,
We are sorry to know that the link didn't work. Please follow the instructions from this link instead: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=How-to-uninstall-AVG and follow the instructions from the previous post. Feel free to contact us for further help.
Thank you.
When are you going to fix this ongoing issue?
I'm having the same problem. With this many of us having the issue between AVG and Private Internet Access (PIA) and probably many others to follow, a solution should be posted here so we can all just fix the issue. Thanks.
I've been running AVG and PIA on my computer for months. All of a sudden today it decides to complain about pia-manager.exe and openvpn.exe. AVG needs to correct this issue.
I have exactly the same issue as Matthew Ashby, and I am really upset over this as well. I PAID for the PIA service and now cannot use it! NOT COOL. This issue needs a FIX, not suggestions that lead nowhere.
Same thing just happened to me. AVG automatically moved my paid for VPN service software to the virus vault.

I'm happy with their service but not happy that AVG is removing it. This needs to be addressed as I see I'm not the only one this is happening to.
Avinash, that really answered nothing. Private Internet Access provides a good service and AVG didn't give me any option today other than to block. Now the PIA program has been deleted and I can't reinstall it because of how AVG removed it. Very dissatisfied with AVG over this.
I have been using AVG for years. I am purchasing PIA as my vpn. Base on the NON-Action by AVG in response to the issues, I will NOT be purchasing AVG software. You keep asking for a screenshot from users. This is not a one time issue, it is replicatible. Do it yourself. Your product is Flawed and you haven't, apperarantly, tried to fix it. Instead, you lay it at the users feet because "they haven't submitted screenshots". I have recommended AVG to all of my clients. Have is the key word here. Your choice in how you handled the situation. My clients will all be sent my new recommendations.
Hello Steve. Please have a look at this article http://avgclick.me/FWallow
I had the same problem once in a while that AVG saw PIA as a threath but I was usually able to allow it withoug complication. However, last night it constantly saw my VPN service as a threath/virus, even after I said it was safe. It kept coming back to the point that it led me to believe that I actually had a virus. I selected the protect me from AVG, removed the "threath", AVG asked for a restart after an update and nothing worked afterwards. I restored from a prior point (2 weeks prior) and same thing happened but this time AVG deleted all the PIA files. I had been using PIA and AVG together for over a year but based on all the comments above, I'm fixing this problem. AVG, you've been good for all those years but time to move on to a more stable software.
Why does AVG see a VPN service such as Private Internet Access as a virus??
Ted, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
