I have recently purchased a new printer a Canon TS6050 which did not appear to print correctly from my Windows laptop. It worked correctly from any Apple device. After about 3 weeks of assistance from Canon I finally found that the problem was caused by the AVG Web Browsing Protection. I found by disabling the surf shield and the online shield cured the problem.
My worry now is by turning off these items does it reduce my security protection - is there any way around this?

Thanks for the quick response. I have already carried out the items described in the link - the file and printer sharing is enabled and have set allowed connection to a specific IP address (the printer). the printer was still not operating correctly. it was only when disabling the web browsing protection that the printer began working correctly.

I have implemented all the items in your link i.e. i had already checked file and printer sharing enabled and selected home network.
I have also allowed connection to a specific device IP Address (the printer) but the printer still was not working properly until I disabled the web browsing protection.
