Problem with the <FIX PERFORMANCE> button

While I did use AVG PC Tuneup a while ago, I uninstalled the program from my machine. I was not allowed to re-install it last night. The second method Click Start -> Programs (or All Programs) -> AVG PC TuneUp ->  All functions -> AVG Rescue Center does not work with Windows 8.1. I am just about ready to back up my data and do a complete system recovery through HP.

I am running Windows 8.1 on an HP Pavilion 17 Notebook. I am running 2015 AVG antivirus Free.  When I clicked on the FIX PERFORMANCE button the program shut off my audio and has blocked all access to Microsoft games. I still have access to the internet through Internet Explorer but nothing I do gets my connection to Microsoft back. Is there any way to reverse the problems caused by this button?

I this case I am afraid that backup + system recovery is easiest solution.
