Problem with Turning off AVG/Firewall

Thanks for the advice. I have gone through the 'repair' process and have rebooted my machine but this has made no difference. I can't disable the firewall as whenever I try to turn off any (or all) of the functions, whatever pop-up box I get, doesn't have any choices within it (i.e. Accept/Yes or Cancel). Any further advice please?

I have a problem with a Brother printer/scanner not connecting to my desktop and their advice is to turn off the Firewall. However, when I try to temporarily disable AVG protection/Firewall, I get a pop-up box checking that I do indeed want to turn it off (and flagging up that it may be a malicious attack) but there isn't a "yes/Confirm" box to pick or a "cancel" box within the pop-up box - the remainder of the pop-up box is just blank so I can't complete my request.  Any advice??
