Problems with 12th December Internet Security update?

Hello Alison,
The issue is might be because of previous/old AVG traces. In this case, I request remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Internet Security. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. Please follow the instruction to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool. After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install/activate AVG Internet Security.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hello Jackie,
Thank you for reaching us with your concerns. May I know if the issue is resolved when AVG protection is disabled? Right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle the On/Off slider to disable AVG protection.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hi, and thank you.  I ran a repair, and it made no difference.  I even uninstalled AVG to be on the safe side, but the dongle still wouldn't run, so in the absence of anyone else posting that they've had problems with the update in question I guess it must just have been coincidence.  Trouble is, of course, now I try reinstalling AVG I can't because it won't allow installation/backups from directory alone, so I'm having to lug the laptop down to the library to use their broadband merely to reinstall it!  Daft idea, if you ask me.

Thanks for your help, and sorry to have bothered you.

I was wondering whether anyone might have experienced any problems with the update dated 12th December?  After it was installed, I noticed that AVGsvc.exe(?) and AVGui.exe(?) were being extremely busy, and suddenly I couldn't get online any more.  I use a broadband dongle on that computer, and it was suddenly showing as unknown, and its software was no longer showing up on Add & Remove Programs, so I can't even delete it and reinstall.  The dongle is behaving normally on all other computers except the one on which I was running IS.
Since AVG no longer allow you to update via directory, I can't update the software, so am stuck with what I've got, or possibly risking uninstalling it and then not being able to reinstall!
