I understand the inconvenience. Please disable the Firewall Component alone (AVG> Menu> Settings > Components > Disable Firewall) and check if you are able to update that program. If the issue fixed after disabling the firewall, please open the AVG user interface, click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components".
To the right scroll down for Firewall and click on the arrow mark that is on the right side.
In the drop-down, you can find the option as "Application rules"
From there you can choose the application and allow or block the internet connection for that application.
