Whenever possible, you should get downloads and updates from the software publisher's website. Sites such as CNET and Filehippo often have other links on the same page as legitimate downloads to pay their bills. These advertisements often contain adware and other potentially unwanted programs, so you should always pay attention to the filenames of downloads before installing. In many cases, freeware installers contain PUPs in addition to legitimate apps. When you successfully install adware, you will be asking why AVG didn't protect you from yourself. (Malwarebytes Free might prove useful at that time.) BTW there hasn't been an iTunes update since 12.0.1 came out 3 months ago.
Having said all that, if you still want "a way around this problem" you can disable reporting of PUPs in AVG settings, or for Identity Protection detections just don't click "protect me."
I'm finding more and more software updates (for example iTunes) as well as downloads from Download.com are carrying at least one variant of the Malware PUP.OPTIONAL. These are blocked automatically by Internet Security and I'm unable to update the variuos software even though I click on allow when receiving the malware esssage.
Is there a way around this problem as I'm getting this problem more and more.
Kind regards
Robert
