There are chances for this to happen due to AVG Sensitive Data Shield or Ransomware protection.
To check this, we request you to refer below articles and check whether the word documents are listed under protected and blocked apps.

If yes, select them and move it to allowed apps list and unprotect it when it is being protected by sensitive data shield.

All of a sudden, my Word documents are coming in Protected View, which shuts off everything else including track changes and spell check. Is this something AVG is doing? How can I turn it off?
