This isn't the usual behavior of AVG protection program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
Before proceeding, would you be so kind to let us know whether you receive any error message while accessing Thunderbird with AVG protection enabled?
If so, share us the screenshot of it for better clarity.
Also, please let us know if you are using AVG Free Antivirus. The reason being, we are unable to find a protection subscription under your account.
AVG must be in Passive Mode for me to use Thunderbird; is there a fix?
