We apologize for the inconvenience.
It seems that the older version of AVG is not completely removed from your computer. We suggest you to check your control panel, if there is any older version of AVG installed and remove the same from the control panel and then run the removal tool and remove the traces of AVG installed.
Note: Once the removal of AVG is complete, go to C Drive and delete the AVG remover folder. After which you can install AVG.

I purchasedInternet Security 2016 but during installation I was told I had an incompatible version of AVG on my system so it could not be installed. I used AVG Remover to uninstall my previous version but still get the same error message. Any idea what is going wrong?
