Hello Michael,
Quarantine is a function of antivirus software that isolates infected files on a computer's hard disk. Files put in quarantine are no longer capable of infecting their hosting system. There is no necessity to open the Quarantine folder. Could you please tell us the name of the .exe file? Please feel free to contact us for further assistance. Thank you
Hello Mr kane.
I have just posted a partial answer to this in another thread by 'Johnson Cheam', you can view it here: Cannot Restore Quarantined File | AVG
Below is an extract from my post which will at least show you the quarantined file paths and names.
The quarantined files are now stored in the following directory:
C:\ProgramData\Avg\Antivirus\chest
Note that ProgramData is a hidden, system folder so you will need to type it in the Windows Explorer path bar if you do not have 'show hidden files' selected in Windows 'folder and search options'.
The index.xml file will allow you to see the full paths and filenames of all the quarantined files, which are stored in the same folder. Unfortunately you will be unable to restore the files manually as they have been encrypted by AVG, rendering them unreadable. As such you will need to wait for the AVG developers to fix and update the Quarantine section before you can recover any files, unless you have a backup system which you can recover them from.
Hi everybody,
I am running AVG free edition 2017 and after having a .exe file moved to quarantine, I cannot restore it.
I access the menu-> quarantine, than click on the file and click restore, windows ask me to give permission to avg to modify files, I click yes but nothing happen.
The file is still visible in the quarantine list!
The file was installed on a flash drive, while trying to recover it the flash drive was still plugged in.
Any ideas? Where is the quarantine folder?
Thanks in advance
