Thank you
I have used a competitors free product for years. Never had too much to complain about them... but then again, they should just quietly do their job. I DID get the occasional intrusion (very rare) though, so I started looking for a new free suite after a recent Win10 rebuild. Today, after reading some very recent PC World reviews of free AV suites, I decided to give AVG another shot (i used AVG back in the early 2000's).
So, my "initial scan" out of the gate, gets STUCK on volmgrx.sys. I HAD TO HARD BOOT (reset switch) the machine, mid-process in order to recover. Taskmgr would not kill AVG and let me continue. I checked the web/forums, and that's where my heart sank,,,, (i.e., "AVG Support") "Please exclude the file and try again". "Please wait for the next update" seeing as these were posted months ago.... seems the "Next Update" didn't fix this eh? And is "file exclusion" an answer?? Isn't that counter productive?? I really want to give this product a chance... I thought it scored high in things that matter (protection and performance). So.... is there hope? Or is this going to plague me (and countless others) in the future? Should I just cut my losses, un-install, and move on?
