Hi Ian,
This isn't the expected behavior.
Please open AVG Internet Security program window.
Click on "Menu->About" and check whether it shows 20.6 version.
If not, refer this article and perform program update.
Once it is updated to 20.6, please restart the PC and check the status with Ransomware protection.
If it already shows 20.6 version, then perform repair of AVG Internet Security as mentioned in this article.
Keep us posted.
Despite having Ransomware protection selected in settings > Basic Protection > Ransomware Protection, I have to manually select this feature every day.

Thanks for responding.
I was already on 20.6.3135 (build 20.6.5495.588).
I've run the repair and rebooted, then opened AVG IS, and ransomware does not now to be switched on.
Back working as it should be I think. Thanks again.
Hi Santhosh,
All seems sorted now so nothing more to do. Ransomware protection is working, and no longer needs to be switched on after booting up.
Thanks anyway for the offer of extra help, but not needed now.
KR. Ian.
