Tri,
Thank you for waiting patiently. AVG will detect Rapid ransomware and I would request you to run a Deep Scan in AVG Antivirus and check the status. We also have Ransomware protection which scans for and automatically secures folders which may contain personal data and allows you to specify which other folders you want to protect from untrusted applications. Additionally, you can specify which applications are allowed to modify the files in your folders and which applications are always blocked. So AVG will protect your PC from any kinds of threats.

Hi Bhuvaneswari,
Thank you for your prompt response, along with your suggestions. I have been able to remove the virus (to the best of my knowledge). I will try those decryptions that you have suggested; I guess I should try them all seeing as there doesn't appear to be a specific one for .rapid?
I also have concern that this attack wasn't picked up by AVG. Should I consider using another product if this is not something that AVG would pick up?
Thanks in advance,
T
Hello Tri,
I understand this must be upsetting and I apologize for the inconvenience. If once the files are encrypted, we cannot decrypt the affected files. However, refer this article and try to decrypt those files. If you face any difficulties, please try some online help for further assistance.
Hi Bhuvaneswari,
Thank you for getting back to me. It is good to know that AVG will protect me, the problem I have is that it did not. I was running AVG and in no way did it protect me and my machine was fully infected with the ransomware. Unless I am missing something then there is clearly still some work to be done to resolve this issue.
Many thanks,
T
Hi all,
Yesterday my computer got infected with .rapid ransomware even though I was running AVG. I managed to catch it before my entire network was infected, I have however still "lost" a lot of documents.
I was wondering how this was able to happen even though AVG was running. For additional information I think that I was hacked using a brute force attack through Windows RDP.
Also does anyone know how do go about decrypting the affected files?
Thanks,
T

Tri,
Are you using AVG Trial version? AVG should protect you against all kinds of threats. Please run the Deep virus scan and check if AVG is detecting the threats.

Thank you for the information.
I have forwarded the case to the senior team for getting suggestions on Rapid Ransomware.
Keep checking this post to know about the status.
Your patience is much appreciated.
