Hello A,
Sorry, since you have installed a older version 2013 of AVG there is only less possibility of achieving the files from vault.
It is not possible to recover the files by using AVG Rescue CD.
We request you to install the latest AVG 2016 version and we can try to retrieve the files.
If you are using the free version then please use this link: http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Protection_Free_1606.exe to download the AVG Protection free version.
Are you able to help?
I have previously used the AVG AntiVirus program, AVG 2013, which placed viruses into the virus vault on each hard disk.
I have removed AVG Antivirus program (and selected option not to remove the virus vault files), as with the latest updates it won't install concurrently with Comodo Internet Security (which I use only as an advanced firewall) on my windows XP system.
I have since discovered that some of the files moved to the virus vault osince 2013 were false positives and I now need them.
I have used the AVG Rescue CD to try and recover some specific files, however while the CD menu works well for everything else, I get an error message after selecting any of the four hard disks in the "Volume Selection" page of the Virus Vault inspection, which the program shows as attached to the system.
For example the C drive volume is shown as "/nnt/sda1 AVG Vault C CONST NTFS 1.8T"
When I select this drive I receive the following error message (and I get similar messages for the other hard drives):
Error:
avqwinvault --main-path "mnt/sdbl" 2>&1 1> "/opt/avg/arl/vault_report.txt.tmp":
ERROR: Set file paths failed, error: 0xe001003d ERROR: Failed to initialize, error:
0xe001003d
On my C drive there is a directory $AVG$VAULT, which has many *.fil files in it, as well as files "vault.db" and "vvfolder.idx".
First, should the AVG Linux Rescue CD work properly as a standalone boot CD in order to restore from the virus vault as I am attempting, or do I need to have AVG already installed on my computer when I use the Rescue CD ?
Second, if the Rescue CD should work as standalone, can anyone say why I get the error message and how to fix this?
Thanks for any assistance with this.
Hi Balasubramanian,
I downloaded the program from the link you supplied and installed AVG Internet Security v16.131.7924.
However when I go to the Virus Vault I receive a message to say "The Virus Vault is empty".
So how do I restore the *.FIL files still in the C:$AVG$VAULT directory which were quarantined in 2014, 2015 and 2016?
Thanks.
I think you gave me bad advice.
1. If what you say is true, that "it is not possible to retrieve the vault content once you have uninstalled the program" then please explain why you told me to install AVG 2016 in your first reply ?
2. Why does one get the option to not delete the virus vault when you uninstall the program, if its not possible to restore the vault contents later ? This doesn't make sense.
Should I contact your technical support and ask them how to solve this problem?
Thanks.
Thank you for installing the new 2016 version.
Actually it is not possible to retrieve the vault content once you have uninstalled the program.
We are sorry to inform you that we couldn't help in retrieving the files that are in C:$AVG$VAULT.
If you have made system restore for Windows then you could try it.
