Yesterday, 12/13/16, AVG AntiVirus FREE was working perfectly on my computer. Every day I updated the virus definitions before starting work and before powering off for the night. Today, 12/14, when I logged on, something was wrong. AVG AntiVirus FREE would not let me open a browser window or even a desktop folder. My browser is Mozilla Firefox. I began by uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling the most recent version (50.1.0), but AVG was still blocking everything I tried to do. So I uninstalled AVG and have spent the rest of the day (eight hours and counting) downloading and re-downloading it, but it never seems to install properly. Instead I keep getting an error message: "Installation already in progress. Another AVG installation or update is already in progress. (Error code: 0xe001f921)". I tried several times to uninstall AVG, hoping that would allow me to do a clean reinstall. First I used the program's uninstaller; when that didn't work, I tried IObit Uninstaller. After running it, I didn't see AVG in the software list, but when I checked my program files, the ENTIRE AVG folder was STILL THERE and could not be deleted. I can't run it, and I can't get rid of it. Please help me. I'm afraid to do anything online without my security software.
P.S. I'm running Windows XP with SP3. Yes, I know my OS is outdated. Until yesterday, AVG Antivirus FREE was running fine with it.
