Reinstalling Tuneup on a new computer

When I type the product key; after the first 4 letters I get a response that it is not formated correctly.  I have a backup disc but when I attempt to install I get a message a newer version is installed.  There are NO AVG programs in my "All Programs"  directory.
I just can not think of another  option.  HELP!
