I used to be able to use a VPN connection that was created using Windows 10 "Add a VPN connection" function. After researching and trying to troubleshoot what was causing the connection to fail I find that I get a "Remote Access error" which number varies depending on the type of tunnel I choose for this connection.
The correct tunnel to use in this case is PPTP, and with this I am getting error 806:
"The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed. The most common cause for this failure is that at least one Internet device (for example, a firewall or a router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider."
I have connected from this same physical location before to this same server and with the exact same computer I am currently using.
I found several websites that state that TCP/UDP port 1723 and Protocol 47 (GRE) should be open, however it is not clear how exactly I can do this with my current version of AVG which includes "Enhanced Firewall" protection:
Software Version> 21.4.3179 (build 21.4.6266.561)
UI version> 1.0.611
I tried several "solutions", including following all links on "Official AVG Support | Search
All of these attempts have been unsuccessful.
Looking for help/support to resolve this rather important matter as I need to connect to this server for work.
Thank you.
