Hello Robert.
Content of temp file can be deleted, but in general it is not recommended to delete duplicate dlls exe etc unless you know what you are doing.
Thank you.
I am reluctant to use this tool to delete files related to programs. I have an engineering f.e. program which has various sub-programs. When I used PCTuneUp to search for duplicates, it found the same .dll files more than one of the sub-programs. My fear is that one or other of these programs may not run after invoking the delete duplicate command. If I run TuneUp with no filters, I have 220Mb of duplicated files. Some of these files have slightly different names. If I run with specific filters eg .dll .exe and other image files i.e. .mip and data file extensions, I have only 20Mb of duplicates. With regard to duplicate .dll files, because they are in different folders, one or other of the programs will be unable to locate them.
There are duplicates in temp folders eg C:\Documents and settings\username\local settings\temp. Apart from the system or Windows temp folders, shouldn't these be removed when a basic maintenance is performed?
It appears that before using the duplicate removal tool,a fairly comprehensive understanding is required of how the computer works and what will happen if the wrong duplicates are removed.
