What part of the English language does AVG not understand? Last year I ended up paying a subscription I didn’t want or need (my fault I didn’t realise what Auto renewal really meant) so this year I logged onto my account a month ago and cancelled the Auto renewal.
Today I get an email from AVG stating that my subscription has been automatically renewed and I HAVE BEEN CHARGED (their wording not mine) the sum of £69.99 ?. Apparently AVG are so concerned that my continuing service does not drop out between today 18 March 2024 and 22 April 2024) that they have arranged payment from my Credit Card account now.
What I have been sent in my opinion is an advice of what their charges will be IF I DECIDE to continue which so happens is not what I want to do. My PC is an old tower model purchased in 2003 (for work purposes) but since retiring in 2015 is totally redundant particularly as both my wife and I have IPads which meets our needs.
I went onto the helpline Chat and dealt with Srinivas who was very courteous but (with 52 years experience of Banking and Local Government and dealing with the public) realised she was having to follow her script provided by her Management. In spite of detailed explanations of my cancellation of the Auto renewal and the reasons of not wanting or needing AVG services, the best she could do was to reduce the renewal amount to £39.99 ??? This was for a service I did not want.
I really had to clearly state that her proposal (as I was a longstanding customer) was totally unacceptable and I was NOT prepared under any circumstances to renew.
Only then ……only then (I assume that is what the script she was working from) allowed her to say that she would make arrangements for the payment of £69.99 to be stopped and no payment would be taken.
Why…Why…Why do AVG do this ? Don’t insult me or my albeit limited experience of all things Computerised and online to have to go through this tiresome, tedious and irritating procedure.
Just say OK sir I appreciate and understand your request and your subscription is cancelled. Nothing else.
Rant ( sorry not a rant ) - observation over. But I will never use AVG again.
