Request for password to delete threats

Anna,
I would like to confirm that this is a legitimate request from AVG, please go ahead and enter the user account password to remove the threats from quarantine folder.

Hello Anna,

I understand the inconvenience. You can post the screenshot of the threat message here. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Other user Colin Roberts posting (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DnSnAAK).

Thank you Bhuvaneswari, I've attached the requested screenshot here, as you can see, AVG appears to be requesting my computer password in order to make changes which I don't remember having to do in the past. I'm cautious about letting any programme make changes to my computer so I wanted to check with you guys first.
My Mac version is: OS X Yosemite - version 10.10.5
My AVG version is: AVG Antivirus - version 17.4

Thanks for your help!

Hi Bhuvaneswari,

I haven't entered my password as requested as I wasn't sure was this a legitimate request from AVG, or whether this was part of the virus. I don't remember being asked previously to enter my password so that AVG could "make changes to my computer".

When I googled this, I came across the following thread: AVG Community

At this link Carl Brennan asked the same question: Prompt for Password to Delete Quarantined File?

Carl provided the same screenshot and was advised to uninstall and reinstall AVG, which would suggest that this was not normal. Before I re-installed AVG or chose to enter my password, I just wanted to check with you guys. I am reluctant to uninstall and reinstall my AVG. But if you're saying that it is normal for AVG to request my password in order to delete threats then I will do this.

Thanks again for your help,

Anna

I just ran a scan on my Mac and threats were found which had been quarantined. When I tried to delete the threats that were found, a pop up requested that I enter my password to allow AVG to delete the threats. The exact wording was "AVG antivirus wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this."

I could be wrong but I don't remember having to do this previously to delete threats so I just wanted to check here whether this was ok, or whether there was a problem.

I took a screenshot but I don't seem to be able to attach it to this question, I seem to only be able to attach an image from a web address.

Anna,

Thank you for providing the screenshot. Have you tried entering your MAC device password to delete the threats? If not please enter the MAC device password to view the threat files location.
