Restart required message continually repeated after restart

Using free version  V17.5.3021  on windows 7



I am not able to turn virus checker on and I have a message in AVG 

A restart is needed to enable some of your security settings

I have done numerous restarts but message does not go away and and continually cannot start virus checker

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. This could be caused due to incomplete installation of AVG program updates. I would suggest you to repair AVG once.
To repair your AVG please follow these instructions:

Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select AVG Antivirus/Protection in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.
